Special Services Overview

The Special Services Department at WOCSD is dedicated to meeting the unique educational needs of every student we support. We provide services to eligible students who are school-age five (5) through under the age of 22, and who qualify for Special Education or accommodations under Section 504, in accordance with both state and federal guidelines. This webpage aims to offer important information and resources to parents, students, staff, and community members about both of these federally mandated services for students with disabilities.

The Special Education team focuses on enhancing outcomes for students with disabilities by ensuring access to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment. 

Section 504 is a federal civil rights law under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination. Students who have a physical or mental impairment that significantly limits one or more major life activities may qualify for accommodations or support services through a Section 504 plan.

Child Find

Child Find is a mandate under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that require school districts to identify and evaluate children who may need special education and related services. 

The Wells-Ogunquit CSD is committed to identifying and providing Special Education services for all children, who are school-age five (5) and under the age of 22, residing in the District.
